Mrs. Bright's Procedures and Routines

Welcome to Fourth Grade with Mrs. Bright.  I am very excited to have each and every one of you in my class.  I am looking forward to a very successful year!  The following pages will describe the routines and procedures in my classroom.  These routines and procedures are developed to help our classroom run smoothly and effectively.  This will allow more time to learn!  Please read over this packet with your child.

ASSIGNMENTS - Every student is given an assignment folder.  ALL homework and important papers should be in this folder!  Your child will fill out the assignment sheet everyday.  Please look through your childs papers and sign the assignment sheet on a regular basis.  I will check folders periodically.  Students filling them out and having them signed will receive a reward.  This is intended to promote responsibility and organization. Assignments will also be posted on my website at http://bluffviewfourth@tripod.com

BIRTHDAYS We will celebrate all students birthdays in our classroom.  If you would like to send a treat, please make sure that it is store bought and individually wrapped.  If your child has a summer birthday, we will celebrate it on January 29th with treats and drinks.  I will send home a letter close to the end of January as a reminder.

BOOK ORDERS I will be sending book orders home periodically.  This is strictly optional, if you would like to order.  You will have one week to turn in orders.  Please make checks payable to the book company or send cash, when placing orders.

DISCIPLINE PLAN See attached sheet.  Please contact me anytime if you have questions or concerns regarding your child. I can be reached at 286-3311/286-4213 (school), 476-9122 (Home),  JBRIGHT@dupo.stclair.k12.il.us ( School email) or 8200@htc.net (Home email).

HOMEWORK POLICY I believe homework is important because it is a valuable aid in helping students reinforce what they are learning.  It prepares them for class, reteaches concepts and gives them practice on skills.  It also helps them develop responsibility and good study habits.

Homework should take no longer than 45 minutes to complete.  This does not include studying for test or long-range projects.  I will give advance notice for all major tests.  A Spelling test will be given on the last day of every week (usually Friday.)

If students choose not to do their homework a 0 will be entered in the gradebook. The assignment and your childs class number will be written on the missing assignment board as a reminder.  Any assignments listed on the missing homework board that are not turned in before progress reports or report cards are averaged will remain a zero.  Any assignments turned in late will have points deducted.  (Anything is better than a zero.)   If a student receives three 0s in a quarter in a class, a notice of concern will be sent home to be signed.  Five 0s in a class in a quarter will result in an after-school detention (with prior parental approval and signature).

STUDENTS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME TO STAY IN FROM RECESS OR PE TO COMPLETE MISSING ASSIGNMENTS.  PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS MAY ALSO BE MADE TO COME BEFORE OR AFTER SCHOOL TO COMPLETE ASSIGNMENTS.

MAKEUP WORK If a student is absent, it is their responsibility to make arrangements to get their assignments.  When you call to report the absence let the office know what you would like done with their assignments. Assignments not picked up will be put in the students classroom mailbox.  It is their responsibility to make sure it is completed.   If a student is absent one day, they have one day to make up their work.  If they are absent two days, they have two days after their return to make up the assignments.  Make up work not completed will be listed on the missing assignment board.

GRADES Papers will be sent home as they are graded.  If a week passes, and your child has not brought home any graded papers, please contact me.  Please go over the papers carefully so you can see where your child is having difficulty.  We will be working with your child at school, but home reinforcement is extremely helpful.

A progress report will be sent home with every student midway through the quarter so that you can see your childs progress.  Grades will consist of an average of homework, classwork, quizzes and tests.  The grading scale is as follows:

·        A = 100   94%

·        B = 93   87%

·        C = 86   78%

·        D = 77 -  70%

·        F = 69 or below

Thank you for your help and support!  I look forward to working with all of you to make Fourth Grade a successful year for all of us!
