Social Studies Landforms Project

*****DUE MONDAY , OCTOBER 20, 2003*****

Make a landform 3-D model using your landform worksheets and pages 456- 457 in your textbook. You must include 10 different types of landforms and label them. Below are a few ideas to help you get started.

Ideas for a base:

  • Cardboard
  • Shoe box
  • Paneling
  • Hardboard
  • plywood

** You must be able to carry it to school.

Ideas for making landforms:

  • Salt-dough (recipe below)
  • Playdough (recipe below) *Past students liked this recipe better.
  • Modeling clay
  • Papier-mache
  • Crayola color foam

Salt-dough recipe

3 cups white flour

1 cup whole wheat flour

2 cups salt

2 ¼ cups water

** To make mountains, and higher elevation landforms you will have to form the dough around objects like paper, plastic, etc.

This dough takes a while to dry.

Play Doh Recipe

In a non stick pan mix 1 cup of flour, ½ cup of salt, 1 cup of water, 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and 2 teaspoons of cream of tartar. Use food coloring to make desired colors and stir constantly on low heat until it forms a soft ball.

Put dough on your board and shape it into your landforms. You may also shape your dough into the USA and create your landforms using candy pieces or other objects.

BE CREATIVE!!

Use the above items to create 10 different landforms. Make land green or brown and water blue. Label all landforms by writing on the board or making tags to place by each different landform. This project is worth 50 homework points and due Monday, October 20, 2003. Projects will be graded by Wednesday, October 22nd and need to be picked up when you come for your childs conference on October 23rd or 24th. Projects will be located in the glass cases by the gym or in the library. Your child should let you know where to look for their project!
